Has your company made the transition to remote work? Most of us have either seen, heard, or been through the changes and challenges of working from home. You don‘t have to be one of the big players, like Google or Apple, to realize that remote work is the way of the future. According to Forbes, by 2025, an estimated 70% workforce will be working remotely at least five days a month. We can thank the year 2020 for that change. Emphasis on Communication
It seems so long ago, but it was our norm to walk into the office and say good morning. Maybe it was Monday, so it was your turn to do the coffee run. Everyone is excited you are here; you hand out the coffee, sit at your desk, and ask your coworkers how their weekends were. It looks different now, but that doesn‘t mean it is less important. Show your employees you care by checking in with your team or meeting with them one-on-one.
Easy Access to Information
It used to easy for your employees to walk into your office and ask you a quick question. Now, the questions turn into emails or phone calls. We can all agree we already have enough emails coming through our inbox. To reduce back and forth communication, have a place where your employees can easily access everything they need right from their computer.
Since we already discussed by 2025, 70% of the workforce will be working remotely, also by 2025, 75% of the workforce will be Millennials. Most of us know Millennials as tech-savvy, but it is important to know they also prefer to work in a collaborative work environment. As Steve Jobs said, “Great things in business are never done by one person. They are done by a team of people.”
It is easy to overlook an employee’s hard work when we don’t see them with our own eyes. Sure we see activity through emails and meetings, but we miss the behind-the-scenes. A simple “Keep up the good work” or “Thank you for working hard” is more meaningful than it has ever been. According to a LinkedIn study, “69% of employees say they would work harder if they felt their efforts were better recognized.” Start to prioritize recognizing your employees, and you may see an increase in productivity.
Managing and supporting remote workers is new to most of us. Do your best to get ahead and master remote support.
